Every Child Deserves a Strong Start: Patricia Sanchez-Aguilar’s CDA® Journey

Patricia Sanchez-Aguilar has the privilege of witnessing these moments each day through her work with children ages 3 to 5 at New Castle County Head Start.
“Working with children aged 3 to 5 at New Castle County Head Start has been one of the most enriching experiences of my professional life,” Patricia shared. “Every day, I have the opportunity to support the children’s growth, learning, and development during a pivotal stage of their lives.”
Her work is guided by the belief that every child deserves a strong start filled with care, encouragement, opportunity, and love.
Creating a Place Where Children Can Thrive
Patricia believes children learn best when they feel safe, respected, encouraged, and understood.
Creating that kind of environment requires more than teaching letters, numbers, and other basic concepts. It requires patience, consistency, meaningful relationships, and a commitment to recognizing the individual strengths of every child.
“Early childhood education goes beyond teaching basic concepts,” she explained. “It is about creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where every child feels valued and capable of reaching their full potential.”
Within that environment, children are given the freedom and support to explore, communicate, build relationships, and discover what they can accomplish.
Watching children develop confidence, social skills, independence, and a love for learning is one of the greatest rewards of Patricia’s work.
Each new skill represents progress, but it also reflects the trust and meaningful connections built among educators, children, and families.
These everyday moments continue to inspire Patricia and remind her of the lasting difference early childhood educators can make.

Earning her Child Development Associate® credential marks an important milestone in Patricia’s professional journey.
The achievement represents the knowledge she has gained, the experiences that have shaped her, and the commitment she brings to her work with young children each day.
“Obtaining the CDA credential represents a significant milestone in my career,” Patricia said. “This credential validates my knowledge and commitment to early childhood education, motivating me to keep learning and growing as a professional.”
Patricia sees the CDA® as more than an academic accomplishment. It reflects her dedication to providing meaningful learning experiences that help children build the skills they need to succeed in school and throughout their lives.

Patricia’s achievement was recognized at the 2026 Delaware RISE Scholarship Recognition Ceremony, held on July 11 at Delaware State University. The event brought together scholars, families, coaches, and early childhood leaders to celebrate educators who reached significant milestones in their professional journeys.
For Patricia, the recognition represented the culmination of sustained learning, practical experience, and a deep commitment to the children and families she serves. It also reflected the encouragement she received from the people who supported her throughout the CDA® process.
The ceremony marked more than the completion of a credential. It affirmed Patricia’s growth as an early childhood professional and the important role educators play in strengthening the experiences of young children across Delaware.
